How to estimate flooring to buy
Start with the area you will cover, then apply your own waste allowance. Box counts need the declared coverage of the flooring product you selected.
How to use it
- Measure the installed floor area and enter an explicit waste percentage; no standard percentage is assumed.
- For a box estimate, enter the selected product's stated area per box. Compare multiple sizes only within one product or a confirmed compatible system.
Formula
Required flooring area = installed area × (1 + waste ÷ 100). With several confirmed compatible box sizes, the calculator chooses a combination of whole boxes with the least area remainder.
Example
For 20 m² of floor and 10% waste, 22 m² of flooring is required. If the selected box covers 1.92 m², buy 12 boxes: 23.04 m² purchased and 1.04 m² remaining by area.
What the estimate uses
- Area, waste and package coverage come from your measurements and the selected product; this page does not choose a flooring type or default allowance.
Limits
- Area and box totals do not calculate plank arrangement, cuts, pattern matching, defects or usable offcuts.
- The estimate does not include underlayment, baseboards, installation cost, stock or product suitability.

Can I calculate flooring without a box size?
Yes. You still get the required area with your chosen waste. A whole-box recommendation needs declared coverage for the flooring you will buy.
