Tile planning

Tile calculator

Estimate the tile pieces and optional whole packages from the installed area, actual tile dimensions, waste and package size you enter.

Tile details

All physical inputs start empty. Package size is optional.

Unit system

Changing units preserves the same physical measurements exactly.

Required

Enter one positive installed area. Room variants are not inferred.

Required
m

Enter the actual tile or sheet length, not a nominal label size.

Required
m

Enter the actual tile or sheet width, not a nominal label size.

Required
%

Enter an explicit value from 0 to 1000. No value is assumed.

tiles

Optional. Enter a whole number from 1 to 1,000,000 printed for this SKU.

How the tile estimate works

Estimate rectangular field tiles or mounted sheets for one measured floor or wall area. Enter the actual coverage dimensions for one selected SKU and add box data only when you want a whole-box recommendation.

How to use it

  1. Enter the positive installation area and the actual coverage length and width of one rectangular tile or mounted sheet.
  2. Enter your own explicit waste allowance and, optionally, the number of pieces in a box for that same SKU.
  3. Compare the theoretical quantity, waste-adjusted requirement and optional whole-box purchase result before buying.

Formula

Tile area = actual length × actual width. Theoretical tiles = installation area ÷ tile area. Required tiles = round up installation area × (1 + waste ÷ 100) ÷ tile area. Whole boxes are rounded up only when pieces per box are entered.

Example

For 10 m², 0.3 m × 0.6 m tiles, 10% waste and 10 tiles per box: the theoretical quantity is displayed as ≈ 55.5556 tiles; the waste-adjusted requirement rounds up to 62 tiles. Buy 7 boxes, or 70 tiles covering 12.6 m², leaving 1.6 m² above the required area.

Assumptions

  • Each piece or mounted sheet is rectangular and its actual coverage dimensions belong to the one selected SKU.
  • Area, waste and pieces per box are entered explicitly; floor or wall context does not change the formula.

Limitations

  • Grout-joint area is not subtracted, and nominal label dimensions are not substituted for actual coverage dimensions.
  • Layout, diagonal or repeating patterns, borders, orientation, cut placement and offcut reuse are not modelled.
  • The result does not prove layout feasibility or check prices, stock, room type or product suitability.

Tile questions

Can I use the same calculator for a floor and a wall?

Yes. Enter the measured installation area. Floor or wall is context only and does not change this quantity formula.

Do I need to enter tiles per box?

No. The required tile count is still calculated. A whole-box recommendation appears only when a valid pieces-per-box value is entered.
